Today's readings: Genesis 8-10:32; Matthew 4:12-25; Psalm 4:1-8; Proverbs 1:20-23 in NIV
Genesis 8 deals with the flood receding, and the covenant with God in the form of a rainbow. Genesis 9 deals with God confirming his covenant with Noah. There is a an account of Noah's son, Ham seeing his father naked and his son Canaan receiving a curse. Geneis 10 is an account of the geneaologies of Ham, Seth and Japheth. Why do we have this geneaology? This is tell us where we came from.
God was ready to start over and He did! This should be a warning to us. We have this lackadaisical idea that God is a God of love, that He is but He is also the God of Judgment.
In Matthew 4, Jesus began His ministry which was fulfilled in Galilee (as prophesied by the Isaiah). The words that 17 From then on Jesus began to preach, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.” applied some 2000 years ago and applies today. The Kingdom is near and getting closer year by year and day by day. Are you ready to meet God?
He challenged His first disciples Peter, Andrew, James and John to follow Him. They left all to follow Him! What about us? Are we willing to leave all and follow Him?
Psalm 4 is a psalm of David. The verse that spoke to me today is
4 In your anger do not sin;
when you are on your beds,
search your hearts and be silent.
Selah
It is so easy to be angry, but hard not to control your anger into sinning.
In Proverbs, Wisdom is exemplified as a person, calling people to turn to her instead of keeping in their folly.
