Today's readings: in Genesis 24:52-26:16; Matthew 8:18-34; Psalm 10:1-15; Proverbs 3:7-8

Genesis 24.52-67 Abraham's servant was rewarded by the faith and obedience he had in God when Rebekah agreed to go with him to meet Isaac whom she has never met and was willing to marry him.

Genesis 25 described the death of Abraham(v.1-11), the descendants of Ishmael )v. 12-18, the birth of Jacob and Esau (v. 19-26) , Esau sold his birthright (v. 27-34). God had blessed Abraham and he married keturah after Sarah's death. Note one of the offspring was Midian whose descendants would cause Abraham descendants, the Israelites trouble in the future.

Genesis 26 Isaac deceives Abimelech. He lied to him about Rebekah been his sister.

In Matthew 8:18-22
What does it cost to follow Jesus? EVERYTHING!It means to be willing to sacrifice your status and creature comforts in life. It may involve leaving your family to follow him.

Matthew 8.23-27 Our lives are like the disciple in the boat, Jesus has control of our lives when we face turbulence and difficulties.

28-33
Jesus has power over the demon-possessed people when he healed then, likewise today, he has power over the demons in our lives.

Psalm 10 the psalmist contrasts the righteous who seem to be the undergo in this earthly life (v. 1), while the wicked prosper (2-11). We need not worry God will give judgment and righteousness one day in this life and the next.

Proverbs 3:7-8 The key to having a fulfilling Christian life is to fear God and turn away from evil. This is pretty similar to v. 5-6

Today's readings: Genesis 8-10:32; Matthew 4:12-25; Psalm 4:1-8; Proverbs 1:20-23 in NIV

Genesis 8 deals with the flood receding, and the covenant with God in the form of a rainbow. Genesis 9 deals with God confirming his covenant with Noah. There is a an account of Noah's son, Ham seeing his father naked and his son Canaan receiving a curse. Geneis 10 is an account of the geneaologies of Ham, Seth and Japheth. Why do we have this geneaology? This is tell us where we came from.

God was ready to start over and He did! This should be a warning to us. We have this lackadaisical idea that God is a God of love, that He is but He is also the God of Judgment.

In Matthew 4, Jesus began His ministry which was fulfilled in Galilee (as prophesied by the Isaiah). The words that 17 From then on Jesus began to preach, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.” applied some 2000 years ago and applies today. The Kingdom is near and getting closer year by year and day by day. Are you ready to meet God?

He challenged His first disciples Peter, Andrew, James and John to follow Him. They left all to follow Him! What about us? Are we willing to leave all and follow Him?

Psalm 4 is a psalm of David. The verse that spoke to me today is
4 In your anger do not sin;
when you are on your beds,
search your hearts and be silent.
Selah

It is so easy to be angry, but hard not to control your anger into sinning.

In Proverbs, Wisdom is exemplified as a person, calling people to turn to her instead of keeping in their folly.
